SUMMARY:Women's Walk
DESCRIPTION:Come meet up with fellow women who enjoy the outdoors and have a desire to walk the wonderful open spaces Scarborough Land Trust has committed to preserving. Women are twice as likely as men to feel uncomfortable walking alone\, so we created this monthly program to foster a fun and supportive community for women to walk together and get to know our preserves. \nThese walks average 60-90 mins in length with a leisurely pace as we observe the landscape and wildlife. Bring binoculars or a camera if you are so inclined. Much of the terrain will be flat (either dirt or grass surfaces) but expect that there will brief uphill stretches\, wood crossings for boggy areas\, and some uneven ground (rocks\, tree roots). Trails could be wet with dew or muddy if there have been recent rains\, although we will postpone or reschedule if inclement weather is forecasted during the event itself. As always\, we recommend wearing long pants\, comfortable footwear\, and sunscreen as appropriate. \nParking can be limited on good weather weekends\, so if you are bringing a companion\, please carpool. \nAlthough most SLT properties are dog friendly\, we ask that you not bring dogs to this event. \n6 sign-up spots will be offered here\, and additional ones will be available through https://www.meetup.com/scarborough-land-trust-nature-and-farm-events/events/302811689/.

SUMMARY:Sustainable Landscaping and Integrated Pest Management
DESCRIPTION:Gary Fish\, State Horticulturist at the Maine Department of Agriculture\, Conservation\, and Forestry\, will help us explore the wonders of sustainable landscaping.  Gary will lead us to discover how this practice contributes to a healthy environment by conserving water\, reducing inputs\, and creating wildlife habitat.  Gary will also show us how integrated pest management can be key to sustainable landscaping.  We will learn how to minimize reliance on pesticides by identifying\, monitoring\, and managing pests with multiple tactics.

SUMMARY:Gen X Dog-Friendly Morning Walk & Breakfast Tailgate
DESCRIPTION:Meet up for a dog-friendly morning walk and a BYO breakfast tailgate at Scarborough Land Trust’s Pleasant Hill Preserve. \n  \nThis preserve is a lovely spot in the early hours of the day\, usually with birdsong as a backdrop for walking the woods and meadows. The plan is to gather in the preserve parking lot to socialize while we eat and caffeinate– bring your own food/coffee and I’ll bring a baked treat to share. We’ll then set out on 45-60 minute walk over mainly flat terrain (some rocks & tree roots) with a few short hills. If you are into nature\, definitely bring your binoculars and/or camera. \n  \nDogs are welcome (though not required!) as long as they are well behaved with people/other pups. They can even be off-leash once we get beyond the accessible entry trail\, though I may ask you to leash up if things get unruly or as we pass others on the trail. \n  \nObviously dress for the weather and be tick aware. As for shoes\, the trail could be wet with dew or muddy if there have been recent rains (or snow!). \n  \nParking is limited\, so if you are bringing a guest\, plan to carpool. There are also no bathroom facilities (other than the great outdoors)\, so go before you come. Bring water for your pet and cleaning up after him/her is required – there is a bag station and garbage can. \n  \nThis event will be weather dependent… misty morning is OK but not really rainy. If necessary\, I’ll make a call on the weather by 5pm on Fri Nov 29\, so be sure to check back here for any updates.  Register at https://www.meetup.com/scarborough-land-trust-nature-and-farm-events/events/301430197/ .

SUMMARY:Snowshoe Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join Diane Neal\, SLT Board Member\, for a guided snowshoe tour of Fuller Farm. This will be a leisurely walk on flat terrain. Frozen ground will allow participants to see areas of the preserve that are not accessible during the rest of the year. Please dress for winter. \nThe event will go on with or without snow. If there is not enough snow for snowshoes\, please\, wear boots with sturdy traction. We highly suggest you bring ice traction for you boots: micro-spikes\, yak trax\, nanospikes\, etc. \nNote SLT’s Liability and Photo Release Form

SUMMARY:Snowshoe Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join Diane Neal\, SLT Board Member\, for a guided snowshoe tour of Pleasant Hill Preserve. This will be a leisurely walk on flat terrain. Frozen ground will allow participants to see areas of the preserve that are not accessible during the rest of the year. The trails at Pleasant Hill provide spectacular views but winter allows access to even more areas of the property. \nThis free event is open to all ages and is good for all fitness levels\, although participants will need to provide their own snowshoes.
