SUMMARY:Pollinator Story Time and Nature Program
DESCRIPTION:Join Scarborough Public Library’s Youth Services Manager\, Deanna McNamara for story time. Deanna has been a Children Librarian in Biddeford\, Gorham\, and now Scarborough. In 2012\, Maine Library Association elected Deanna the Maine Librarian of the Year. She loves connecting with families and is excited to be a part of Scarborough’s community.  \nStory time will feature books about beetles\, butterflies\, and bees! Pollinators are so important in nature\, food\, and science. Learn all about the bugs that you can find pollinating meadow wildflowers in Scarborough. There will be a nature walk after the stories\, where kids will find wildflowers and bugs to identify using magnifying glasses (Bring a magnifying glass if you have one!).  \nNo registration required.

SUMMARY:Invasive Species Training
DESCRIPTION:Under the guidance of our Stewardship Director\, learn how to identify and combat invasive species at Scarborough Land Trust properties and in your own backyard! Invasive species are organisms that are non-native to a particular area and cause harm to the environment where they are introduced. Every year the SLT stewardship committee and a team of dedicated volunteers work hard to manage and fight the spread of invasive species across properties. We need your help identifying these species and working to remove them before they spread. \nAll ages welcome\, although children must be accompanied by an adult. Be prepared to walk a short distance\, potentially off the maintained trail. We encourage stewardship volunteers to bring their own tools\, if they have them\, including gloves\, loppers\, trimmers\, shovels\, and any Personal Protective Equipment. We recommend wearing long pants\, comfortable footwear\, and applying bug spray. Remain tick and insect aware. \nAll trainings will take place at Pleasant Hill Preserve. \nThere will be trainings every other Tuesday starting August 9 and ending September 20. \nTrail works days will also be scheduled on Saturdays this summer\, and location of those will change each month. After volunteers have been trained they are encouraged to be autonomous and schedule additional work days for themselves and other volunteers. \nThere is no need to register but we ask that all participants fill out the Liability and Photo Release Form and Volunteer Form at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScPFXO-twK88yEnwbO7IJ59W3LBfepg9GUW6ofrDwAcBNWAXA/viewform \nQuestions?\nContact Sami at swolf@scarboroughlandtrust.org

SUMMARY:Monarch Story Time and Nature Lesson
DESCRIPTION:Join Scarborough Public Library and SLT for Monarch Story Time!\nMonarch butterflies have been added to the Endangered Species list. Come learn about what we can do to help these beautiful butterflies. Stories for all ages will be read first\, and then we will interact with the caterpillars afterwards in a nature lesson appropriate for preschool aged and older. Dress to explore the perimeter of the pond in search of caterpillars and eggs.  \nKelly Pietrzak loves to work with children: from coaching youth sports\, to leading youth nature hikes\, to homeschooling her own two children. She previously ran a nature education business for preschool aged children and has a Master’s in Education teaching mostly middle school math but also at the elementary and college level. She loves to camp\, tend her ever expanding gardens\, and trail run with the family dog. This is the third year Kelly has led walks for children with Scarborough Land Trust\, and her second year serving on SLT’s Communication\, Education\, and Outreach Committee. \nNo sign up required. \nNote SLT’s Liability and Photo Release
