SUMMARY:Birds\, Plants & Imagination: A Family-Friendly Nature Walk has been postponed until 2/23
DESCRIPTION:Raising children in a world defined by a changing climate can be overwhelming.  The uncertainties are real\, but so are the possibilities.  Knowing people will protect what they love\, this walk helps children\, and their adults\, fall in love with the natural world.  On this winter walk\, we’ll learn about some of the birds and plants that call Scarborough home.  We’ll also tap into our imaginations and build relationships with the alive and wise world that surrounds us. \n  \nThis walk will be co-led by Nicole Diroff\, a United Church of Christ minister and Maine Master Naturalist\, and Elliott\, her 11 year old son and bird enthusiast.  People of all ages are welcome for this intergenerational program. \n  \nPlease dress for the weather.  Snow pants\, warm gloves and boots with spikes are encouraged. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Forest Bathing with Gently Flourish
DESCRIPTION:Immerse yourself in nature through Forest Bathing\, a growing global wellness movement that encourages you to enjoy nature at a slower pace and alleviate the stressors of everyday life. \nForest Bathing walks are slow-paced and generally cover less than a mile of trail. During this time your guide Kelsey\, in partnership with the forest\, will offer an evolving series of invitations crafted to help participants slow down\, open their senses\, and connect to nature. Kelsey is a nature-based artist and certified Forest Therapy Guide\, who offers meaningful workshops in nature through her business Gently Flourish. \nAttendees should bring a water bottle\, comfortable walking shoes\, and weather-appropriate clothing. \nLightweight\, portable stools will be provided. Walks will continue in drizzling rain\, as this can enhance our sensory experience.

SUMMARY:Women's Walk
DESCRIPTION:Come meet up with fellow women who enjoy the outdoors and have a desire to walk the wonderful open spaces Scarborough Land Trust has committed to preserving. Women are twice as likely as men to feel uncomfortable walking alone\, so we created this monthly program to foster a fun and supportive community for women to walk together and get to know our preserves. \nThese walks average 60-90 mins in length with a leisurely pace as we observe the landscape and wildlife. Bring binoculars or a camera if you are so inclined. Much of the terrain will be flat (either dirt or grass surfaces) but expect that there will brief uphill stretches\, wood crossings for boggy areas\, and some uneven ground (rocks\, tree roots). Trails could be wet with dew or muddy if there have been recent rains\, although we will postpone or reschedule if inclement weather is forecasted during the event itself. As always\, we recommend wearing long pants\, comfortable footwear\, and sunscreen as appropriate. \nParking can be limited on good weather weekends\, so if you are bringing a companion\, please carpool. \nAlthough most SLT properties are dog friendly\, we ask that you not bring dogs to this event.
