SUMMARY:Life Cycle Gardening: Planting for Pollinators at All Life Stages
DESCRIPTION:We often think of pollinator gardens as places full of colorful wild flowers\, abuzz with insects. Those flowers are vital for adult bees\, moths\, and butterflies but trees and shrubs play critical roles at different life stages of these pollinators. Join Kelly Corbin\, owner of Living Landscapes Maine\, to learn more about the importance of adding shrubs and trees to our gardens. This talk will cover: \n\nHow pollinators use woody plants to complete their life cycles.\nNative shrub and tree options for gardens of any size.\nGarden maintenance strategies to promote pollinators.\n\nRegister with the Scarborough Library here: https://scarboroughlibrary.libcal.com/event/16310636 \n  \n

SUMMARY:Women's Walk
DESCRIPTION:Come meet up with fellow women who enjoy the outdoors and have a desire to walk the wonderful open spaces Scarborough Land Trust has committed to preserving. Women are twice as likely as men to feel uncomfortable walking alone\, so we created this program to foster a fun and supportive community for women to walk together and get to know our preserves. \nThese walks average 60-90 mins in length with a leisurely pace as we observe the landscape and wildlife (migrating birds\, wildflowers\, etc). Bring binoculars or a camera if you are so inclined. Much of the terrain will be flat (either dirt or grass surfaces) but expect that there will brief uphill stretches\, wood crossings for boggy areas\, and some uneven ground (rocks\, tree roots). Trails could be wet with dew or muddy if there have been recent rains\, although we will postpone or reschedule if inclement weather is forecasted during the event itself. As always\, we recommend wearing long pants\, comfortable footwear\, and sunscreen as appropriate. \nParking can be limited on good weather weekends\, so if you are bringing a companion\, please carpool. \nAlthough most SLT properties are dog friendly\, we ask that you not bring dogs to this event. \n SLT rarely cancels programs but occasionally we must\, especially in bad weather. Please check our website before heading out to a program to ensure it is still being held. \n

SUMMARY:GapTracks: Assessing Both Wildlife and Human Use of the Eastern Trail’s GAP section
DESCRIPTION:The GapTracks Project began in February of 2017 by deploying game cameras to assess the wildlife community before\, during\, and after trail construction along the Eastern Trail and Nonesuch River in Scarborough. The goal of this project is to document and share (via Facebook\, Instagram\, public presentations) wildlife and human use this amazing forest\, marsh and river; we hope to make management recommendations on how to best balance human and wildlife use of this important resource. \nThis project is run by Dr. Noah Perlut and students from the University of New England\, including the Terrestrial Wildlife class\, who will present their research on this long-term monitoring project. This presentation is offered in partnership with UNE\, the Eastern Trail Alliance\, and the Scarborough Land Trust.
