DESCRIPTION:Story time and easy hike at Blue Point with Kelly\nKelly will read stories about the season of fall\, acorns\, and Indigenous peoples. The hike to the reading spot is about 1 mile roundtrip. All ages welcome. \nKelly Pietrzak loves to work with children: from coaching youth sports\, to leading youth nature hikes\, to homeschooling her own two children. She previously ran a nature education business for preschool aged children and has a Master’s in Education teaching mostly middle school math but also at the elementary and college level. She loves to camp\, tend her ever expanding gardens\, and trail run with the family dog. This is the third year Kelly has led walks for children with Scarborough Land Trust\, and her second year serving on SLT’s Communication\, Education\, and Outreach Committee. \nRain date: Tuesday\, November 29th \n\nNo sign up required. \nNote SLT’s Liability and Photo Release \n\nThis event is in partnership with the Scarborough Public Library.

DESCRIPTION:We need your help identifying these species and working to remove them before they spread! \nAll ages welcome\, although children must be accompanied by an adult. Be prepared to walk a short distance\, potentially off the maintained trail. We encourage stewardship volunteers to bring their own tools\, if they have them\, including gloves\, loppers\, trimmers\, shovels\, and any Personal Protective Equipment. We recommend wearing long pants\, comfortable footwear\, and applying bug spray. Remain tick and insect aware. \nNeed training on invasive identification? \nThere will be trainings every other Tuesday starting August 9th and ending September 20th at Pleasant Hill Preserve. \nTrail work days are scheduled on Saturdays this summer with a rotating location each month. \n\nJuly 16th and 30th – Pleasant Hill Preserve. \nAugust 13th and 27th – Fuller Farm Preserve.\nSeptember 10th and 24th – Blue Point Preserve.\n\nAfter volunteers have been trained they are encouraged to be autonomous and schedule additional work days for themselves and other volunteers. \nThere is no need to register but we ask that all participants fill out the Liability and Photo Release Form and Volunteer Form at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScPFXO-twK88yEnwbO7IJ59W3LBfepg9GUW6ofrDwAcBNWAXA/viewform \nQuestions?\nContact Sami at swolf@scarboroughlandtrust.org

Each week will take a close look at water and its important role in the environment. Each session will be 2 hours long\, starting at 3 PM and concluding at 5 PM. \nSession 2 – Marshlands POSTPONED TO Wednesday\, August 31 \nIn this session\, we will explore the marshlands of Scarborough at SLT’s Blue Point Preserve. Why are marshes so smelly? How do the tides affect marshlands? We will learn about the biology and chemistry of saltmarshes. Wetlands are so important to animals- especially birds. Bring binoculars! We could see lots of egrets\, blackbirds\, and many other marsh birds. \nPlease Bring: \n\nClothes and shoes you don’t mind getting wet\nLayers- for temperature\, rain\, and tick coverage\nInsect repellent\nSunscreen\nSnacks and water\n\nActivities include science as well as book readings\, crafts\, and games. \nAlong the way\, we will be using a refractometer to measure the salinity of the water at each location. \nCost: FREE \nRecommended Age: 8 years and older (All children must be accompanied by an adult). \nNote SLT’s Liability and Photo Release Form  \n  \nTHE SERIES IS FULL\nREGISTRATION IS CLOSED\nPlease email awilson@scarboroughlandtrust.org to get on the waiting list.
