SUMMARY:LOCATION UPDATED - Women's Walk now at Pleasant Hill Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Come meet up with fellow women who enjoy the outdoors and have a desire to walk the wonderful open spaces Scarborough Land Trust has committed to preserving. Women are twice as likely as men to feel uncomfortable walking alone\, so we created this monthly program to foster a fun and supportive community for women to walk together and get to know our preserves. \nThese walks average 60-90 mins in length with a leisurely pace as we observe the landscape and wildlife (migrating birds\, wildflowers\, etc). Bring binoculars or a camera if you are so inclined. Much of the terrain will be flat (either dirt or grass surfaces) but expect that there will brief uphill stretches\, wood crossings for boggy areas\, and some uneven ground (rocks\, tree roots). Trails could be wet with dew or muddy if there have been recent rains\, although we will postpone or reschedule if inclement weather is forecasted during the event itself. As always\, we recommend wearing long pants\, comfortable footwear\, and sunscreen as appropriate. \nParking can be limited on good weather weekends\, so if you are bringing a companion\, please carpool. \nAlthough most SLT properties are dog friendly\, we ask that you not bring dogs to this event.

SUMMARY:Birding by Ear Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join Christie Constantine\, a Maine Master Naturalist\, on a walk identifying birds through sound. Birding by ear opens a whole new dimension in identifying and enjoying the bird life around us.  Many birds are quick\, camouflaged\, or hidden by foliage—making them difficult to spot. By learning their songs and calls\, we can identify them even when they remain out of sight.  We’ll explore the basics of birding by ear\, discover why and how birds sing\, and practice listening for some of Maine’s common species on a short guided walk.

SUMMARY:Snowshoe Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join Diane Neal\, SLT Board Member\, for a guided snowshoe tour of Pleasant Hill Preserve. This will be a leisurely walk on flat terrain. SUMMARY:Birds\, Plants\, and Imagination: A Family-Friendly Walk
DESCRIPTION:Raising children in a world defined by a changing climate can be overwhelming.  The uncertainties are real\, but so are the possibilities.  Knowing people will protect what they love\, this walk helps children\, and their adults\, fall in love with the natural world.  On this winter walk\, we’ll learn about some of the birds and plants that call Scarborough home.  We’ll also tap into our imaginations and build relationships with the alive and wise world that surrounds us. \n  \nThis walk will be co-led by Nicole Diroff\, a United Church of Christ minister and Maine Master Naturalist\, and Elliott\, her 11 year old son and bird enthusiast.  People of all ages are welcome for this intergenerational program. \n  \nPlease dress for the weather.  Snow pants\, warm gloves and boots with spikes are encouraged. \n

SUMMARY:Birds\, Plants & Imagination: A Family-Friendly Nature Walk has been postponed until 2/23

SUMMARY:Women's Walk
DESCRIPTION:Come meet up with fellow women who enjoy the outdoors and have a desire to walk the wonderful open spaces Scarborough Land Trust has committed to preserving. Women are twice as likely as men to feel uncomfortable walking alone\, so we created this monthly program to foster a fun and supportive community for women to walk together and get to know our preserves. \nThese walks average 60-90 mins in length with a leisurely pace as we observe the landscape and wildlife (migrating birds\, wildflowers beginning to appear\, etc).

Originally from Western Massachusetts\, he has worked previously as a high school teacher of Nature Study and Birding\, and studied Agroecology at the Swedish Agricultural University and Plant\, Soil\, and Insect Sciences at UMass – Amherst.
