Amphibians and Reptiles of Southern Maine
July 15, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
FreeJoin the Scarborough Land Trust and the Amphibian and Reptile Trust International (amphibianreptile.org) in a field program to learn about the common, and not so common, species of amphibians and reptiles found in Southern Maine. We will look for several species found on SLT properties, focusing on general characteristics and habitat requirements. We will also discuss conservation status, natural history and the ethics around handling amphibians and reptiles.
Our instructor is Greg LeClair. Greg is a PhD student at the University of Maine where he studies environmental DNA applications for endangered species. Greg has been working in the field of herpetology (the study of amphibians and reptiles) since 2014. Greg created and manages the Maine Big Night, a community science project focused on monitoring and assisting road-crossing of amphibians throughout the State.
Please dress appropriately for the weather, including footwear for muddy or wet conditions. Also recommended are hat, water, insect repellent and sunscreen. Hand sanitizer is also recommended if you handle any reptiles and amphibians.
Registration is restricted to participants ages 5 and older.
