Introduction to Nature Photography

In partnership with The Scarborough Public Library, please join instructor Dan Kehlenbach for a class on Nature Photography.
Whether alone or with others, exploring nature with a camera is a great way to enjoy the beauty of the world around you. Nature is everywhere– you don’t have to travel to far-off destinations to make photographs.
Requirements for class:
- No experience necessary! This class is geared for the complete beginner. People with experience will also benefit from the presentations.
- A digital camera of any kind
- Computer or mobile device to edit photos (or use the library computers)
- Class notes will be provided
- Registration for all six classes is required
Participants will learn:
- Photographic techniques for a wide range of nature subjects
- Ethics of nature photography and responsible practices
- Processing photos in the “digital darkroom”
- An appreciation for nature and skills for an enjoyable lifelong pursuit
Course Outline:
- Introduction to nature photography, cameras, and gear — Tuesday, April 25, 6:30PM-7:30PM
- Landscape and scenics — Saturday, April 29, 1PM-2:30PM. Optional Saturday morning meet up at a special Scarborough location TBA
- Wildlife — Tuesday, May 2, 6:30PM-8PM
- Close-ups and macros — Saturday, May 6, 1PM-2:30PM. Optional Saturday morning meet up at a special Scarborough location TBA
- After the capture – the digital darkroom — Tuesday, May 9 6:30PM-8PM
- Projects for your nature photographs — Saturday, May 13 1PM-2:30PM. No Saturday morning meet up.
- Photo Gallery Kickoff & Reception — Tuesday, May 16 6:30PM-8PM
Instructor: Dan Kehlenbach
Dan is a passionate nature photographer who loves to share his lessons with people to help them enjoy photography and the outdoors. He can be usually found in forests, wetlands, and shorelines marveling in the natural world.
