SLT is putting together a team of hardworking individuals to help combat invasive species. The team will attend invasive species removal work days throughout summer. Trainings will also be provided.
Invasive Species Training
Invasive species are organisms that are non-native to a particular area and cause harm to the environment where they are introduced. Do you know how to identify them?
Learn how with our Stewardship Director, Sami. Training will also feature the correct strategies to remove and combat invasive species.
Every year the SLT stewardship committee and a team of dedicated volunteers work hard to manage and fight the spread of invasive species across properties. We need your help identifying these species and working to remove them before they spread.
All trainings will take place at Pleasant Hill Preserve.
There will be trainings every other Tuesday starting August 9 and ending September 20.
Trail works days will also be scheduled on Saturdays this summer, and location of those will change each month.
Invasive Species Work Days
Several work days with take place with trained volunteers where, as a team, we will remove invasive species from SLT preserves.
Be prepared to walk a short distance, potentially off the maintained trail. We encourage stewardship volunteers to bring their own tools, if they have them, including gloves, loppers, trimmers, shovels, and any Personal Protective Equipment. We recommend wearing long pants, comfortable footwear, and applying bug spray. Remain tick and insect aware.
After volunteers have been trained they are encouraged to be autonomous and schedule additional work days for themselves and other volunteers.
Trail work days are scheduled on Saturdays this summer with a rotating location each month.
- July 16th and 30th – Pleasant Hill Preserve.
- August 13th and 27th – Fuller Farm Preserve.
- September 10th and 24th – Blue Point Preserve.
All ages welcome, although children must be accompanied by an adult.
