The Scarborough Land Trust conducted a bioblitz on Saturday, October 5. A bioblitz is an event that focuses on finding and identifying as many species of plants and animals as possible in a specific area over a short period of time (usually held on one day). We held our bioblitz at a property we are planning to conserve in the near future- 91 Mussey Rd, Scarborough. We identified and banded birds early in the morning and identified plants, insects, and any other animals we found a little later in the day. Group leaders guided participants through the property to identify the plants and animals. Among our volunteers for the bioblitz were UNE students, who helped us conduct a survey of birds on the property. For more information, read this interesting article about the experience –
