We’re so glad you’re visiting Fuller Farm’s Bird Trail! If you don’t know us yet, Scarborough Land Trust (SLT) is an independent nonprofit organization founded in 1977, dedicated to conserving land where natural resources, scenic vistas and historical significance offer unique value to our community. Where appropriate, SLT creates and maintains hiking trails and recreational opportunities, in addition to offering guided hikes, workshops, programs and environmental education activities.
Fuller Farm is one of SLT’s most-visited and ecologically diverse properties west of the Turnpike, and the Bird Trail was due for restoration. Due to extreme degradation of bog bridges and climate-induced sustained periods of flooding, severe erosion from traffic going off the trail has widened the trail by 10 feet along much of the route. SLT is taking this opportunity to improve conditions for adaptive access to support visitors with mobility needs. The improvements underway on the Bird Trail will also greatly help sustain the trailside wildlife communities, and keep our trail open year-round. Crews are led by Tom Nolan, SLT Board Member and Lead Steward. Thank you to the many volunteers that have already helped with this project, and to the supporters whose contributions have helped to make this undertaking possible. The improvements to the Bird Trail are part of a $13,000 Fuller Farm Improvement Project, which has included adding additional spaces to the parking lot, building new boardwalks, and rerouting several trails. There is still lots of work to be done, and lots of fundraising needed to complete the project. If you enjoy Fuller Farm’s trails, or value these efforts, we encourage those able to make a contribution today by following the link above.
