Scarborough Land Trust announced the winners of its Marsh Madness photo contest today. This contest, which spanned the month of March, was designed to showcase the natural beauty and personal connections people have with the Scarborough Marsh and SLT’s nine preserves in Scarborough. In total, 166 photos were submitted to the contest and are posted in a gallery on SLT’s website (https://scarboroughlandtrust.org/marsh-madness-photo-contest-entries/) and in an album on the organization’s Facebook page. The People’s Choice awards went to the photos receiving the most reactions (likes, loves, etc.) on Facebook as of April 10. A panel of photographers also selected Judge’s Choice winners, following a review of the submissions for technical excellence, composition, originality, and strength of subject matter in relation to the contest criteria.

HONORABLE MENTIONS
Eight Scarborough area businesses supported the contest by contributing gift certificates as prizes: Cabela’s, Evergreen Credit Union, Oak Hill Beverage, Burano’s, Café Luna, Lois’ Natural Marketplace, The Cheese Iron, and Wild Birds Unlimited. The Grand Prize was $250 cash underwritten by a donor. “We were thrilled by the response we received from photographers and the community for our first photo contest. The photos submitted reflect the stunning beauty of Scarborough’s landscape and the critical importance of protecting our natural areas, including Scarborough Marsh,” said Andrew Mackie, Executive Director of Scarborough Land Trust. “We are grateful to all who participated, especially the local businesses and generous donor who contributed our prizes.”
The winning photos are viewable online at SLT’s website and Facebook page and will be on display at the organization’s office beginning later this month. The office and its nature store are open to the public 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday at 25 Plaza Drive in Scarborough.
