Since purchasing 14 acres of land from the Blue Point Congregational Church and the town of Scarborough in September, SLT staff and volunteers have been hard at work making it ready for public access. We plan to continue work through this winter and will have the preserve open to the public next spring.
The largest improvement is one that hopefully, within a year or so, you’ll never even be able to see. A dilapidated house, only two-hundred feet or so from the Scarborough Marsh, was removed to prevent debris from polluting the marsh. Huge thanks to Risbara Brothers Construction for donating the equipment and labor to accomplish this.
Visitors will be able to walk from our newly constructed parking area on Seaveys Landing Road (directly behind the Blue Point Congregational Church) down a stretch of gravel road to view and enjoy the Scarborough Marsh. Those who are more nimble will be able to return to the parking area via a new trail through the woods that will be completed by spring.
A grand opening gathering will be held next spring to welcome everyone to the Blue Point Preserve. Be sure you are signed up for our monthly email newsletter to be notified about the event. You can sign up here.
