Description
Description: Black Chokeberry is typically a wetland species found in bogs, swamps and dunes. The plant is very adaptable and can be found in other soil conditions. The shrub will send up suckers often creating a dense thicket; however, it does not spread as much as Red Chokeberry. The flowers are white to pink-tinged, blooming in spring. The fruits are red to purplish-black. The foliage turns various shades of red in the fall.
Height: 5 to 9 feet
Light Requirement: Full sun to partial shade
Soil Requirement: Can tolerate most soil conditions, including wetland soils
